Getting Started

Apps

Here are some great getting started iPad apps. Start with what you want students to accomplish and then find the right app.

Skitch - from Evernote. Lets you draw and annotate on photos.
Pic Collage - Lets you create collages and page layout
Chirp - Distributes media via audio cues
Book Creator - creates ePubs, publish electronically

Here is a practical example of these apps in use (Classroom shown is using Android devices but the same project can be done on the iPad.)




Keynote - Like PowerPoint but way better for layout and design and creativity.
ShowMe - Explain Everything - Lets you use a whiteboard to diagram a process or allow kids to do the same for you.
Doodle Buddy - Draw/paint program, great starting point for younger kids but still full of potential for older kids' creativity .
Tinker Box - Machine problem solving, force and motion, simple machines
Daisy The Dinosaur - Gets kids thinking like programers
Cargo-Bot - programing cranes - great problem solving, enrichment

Show Me App is a whiteboard app that records

-Going through the process
-Fluency - richer more detailed picture
-Running Records - Upload a document and record a student reading. Annotate notes on document while the student reads..
Notability App: Upload a doc. for RR or Fluency and annotate on it.
Teacher and Kids:
Socrative: http://socrative.com/ Free and simple online test/quiz maker, self-grading with results exported in a Google Spreadsheet or Excel File.
Infuse Learning: http://www.infuselearning.com/ Similar to Socrative but with its own set of cool features
Google Forms: Great for surveys, quizzes, tests, staying organized
Kahoot: https://getkahoot.com/ https://kahoot.it Fun gameshow like website where kids compete on review type knowledge.
Nearpod App, a little more advance app but it allows you to get all of the kids on the same activity on the iPads at the same time. One to explore deeper.
